Manor Profile
Westbourne, West Sussex· Westbourne and Singleton Hundred· 1086 – 1885
Also known as: Prymsted
Prinsted lies at the southern tip of Westbourne parish, on the shore of Chichester Harbour. It had no separate Domesday entry, forming part of the 36-hide Westbourne estate held by Earl Roger de Montgomery in 1086.
The manor descended as part of the main Westbourne estate through the earls of Arundel, the Lumley family, and the earls of Scarborough. When Lewis Way's executors sold the main Westbourne manor to Charles Dixon in 1829, Prinsted was separated. William Padwick purchased it around 1829. Thomas Britain Vacher subsequently acquired it around 1846, and it passed to Herbert Perkins Vacher. In 1885 Edward Roy Longcroft purchased the manor.
A manor house at Prinsted is dated 1663 with the initials I & S. G. on the building.
