Manor Profile
Oving, West Sussex· Box and Stockbridge Hundred· 1218 – 1397
Egley belonged to the city of Chichester until Henry I bestowed it with Kingsham. William Ruffus held c.1218. It passed to Emma (great-granddaughter), who married John de Grey of Shirland. Reynold de Grey granted it to his brother John (1256).
John Moyne and Cicely settled the manor in 1326. Reynold le Moyne held at death (1332) of John de Leom by rent of a pound of cummin. In 1362 the reversion was transferred to Richard, Earl of Arundel. After this time Egley is always found attached to Shopwick, following the same descent through the Browne and Billingsley families.
